I lost some writing
Draft pages keep earlier versions. Open the page, then the clock icon beside it in the list, and you will find the last twenty states of that page with the time and word count of each. Any of them can be put back, and putting one back keeps the current version too.
If you deleted a whole story, the message that appeared offers an undo for nine seconds. Past that, a backup file is the way — Settings → Your work → Restore from file.
Where is my writing kept?
Signed out, in this browser or on this device only. Signed in, in your account, on every device you sign in on. Settings says which applies to you and lists exactly what is on the device, in bytes.
Signed out is the safer setting for privacy and the riskier one for loss — clearing browser data takes the writing with it. Take backups.
Moving between devices
Sign in on both, and they share one desk. If you had work on a device from before you signed in, the app offers once to copy it into your account, and copies rather than moves it.
Without an account: Settings → Download backup on one, then Restore from file on the other.
AI mode isn't doing anything
It is off until you switch it on and paste your own Anthropic API key in Settings. Keys start with sk-ant- and come from console.anthropic.com. You pay Anthropic directly for what you use.
Everything else — the pile, the cast, the timeline, the workbench, the draft, export, structure templates, idea sparks — works without it and always will.
Deleting things
A single story: the menu on its card, on your desk. Everything on this device: Settings → Danger zone. Your account and everything in it: Settings → Account → Delete this account. All three are permanent, and each offers a backup first.
Keeping everything on your own machine
Don’t sign in. That is the whole method: signed out, every word is in your browser’s storage or on your device, nothing is transmitted, and the app works with the network off.
The trade is that the only copy is there — clearing your browser data takes it with it. Settings → Your work downloads a backup.
Reporting a bug
Email the address above. What you were doing, what happened, and which browser or device, is enough to start.
If it involves lost writing, say so first — that gets looked at ahead of everything else.
Security
If you find a vulnerability, please report it privately to the address above before disclosing it anywhere. You will get a reply.
